Black belt is a great achievement for many – and only a few of the people who start as white belts advance through the ranks. Black belt parties can hold fun (and, yes, colorful) decorations along with a stream of gourmet foods. At this party, everyone who tests for black belt should be invited to this festive event.

For decoration, buy black and white striped tablecloths for the dinning room. Get black plates with white designs (definitely paper) so that the masses can have stylish, reusable plates. Next, hang ribbons from the cieling in order of the belt ranks at specified studio. For examples, look below at standard taekwondo belts:

Next, set up a sign up sheet for everyone to contribute meals at the studio. Download this link if needed.

Onto the desserts… it’s always great to provide sweets for the guests.

  1. Strawberry Cupcakes
  2. Black Belt Cake

For the Strawberry Cupcakes:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • ½ cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp water
  • Black licorice

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×9 inch pan or line a muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. Put strawberries, powdered sugar, and water in blender. Blend until smooth. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the milk and strawberry puree until batter is smooth.
  4. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. For cupcakes, bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.
  6. Tie the licorice into a belt shape and top the cupcake. If wanted, add dollop of white frosting or whipped cream before adding belt.

For the black belt cake, make a chocolate cake and then decorate with a fondant black belt.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans.
  2. Use the first set of ingredients to make the cake. In a medium bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add the eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, mix for 3 minutes with an electric mixer. Stir in the boiling water by hand. Pour evenly into the two prepared pans.
  3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to cool completely.
  4. To make the frosting, use the second set of ingredients. Cream butter until light and fluffy. Stir in the cocoa and confectioners’ sugar alternately with the milk and vanilla. Beat to a spreading consistency.
  5. Split the layers of cooled cake horizontally, cover the top of each layer with frosting, then stack them onto a serving plate. Frost the outside of the cake.

To recap, for this party make fun decorations, let everyone chip in some homemade dishes, and make astounding desserts.
